MY RESEARCH
Honors thesis: “Aquatic Citizen Scientist Motivations: Implications for Civil Society”
Interviewed 21 aquatic citizen scientists to understand what motivates them to monitor the quality of their local waterways. Studied two different groups of volunteers, fracking and non-fracking, in order to identify if there are differences in motivations between the two groups. Analyzed the implications of volunteer motivators and how motivations may be targeted to improve recruitment and retention strategies.
Honors thesis: "The Mincio Park: An Intercultural Case Study"
Studied the Mincio Park in Mantua, Italy, which protects part of an important watershed and utilizes volunteers. Interviewed administrators and volunteers in Italian in order to understand the main environmental problems in the area and to understand what motivates volunteers to work for the Park. Studied the ways in which Italians define watersheds differently than Americans and the bodies of water that make up the watershed, which is partly protected by the Park. Analyzed the implications of these cultural differences.

MY PROJECTS
Baird Sustainability Fellowship
Climate change resolution & grant writing
As a Baird Sustainability Fellow, I had the opportunity to work on passing a carbon fee and dividend resolution through the Carlisle Borough Council. I worked with other Baird Fellows to gain support for the resolution through local environmental groups and presented the resolution to the Council for them to vote on it. The resolution passed, showing the Council and Borough's support for a carbon fee and dividend that could help decrease the United States' use of fossil fuels.
I also had the opportunity to work with a community partner, Hope Station, to write a grant to expand and strengthen their computer infrastructure in order to support their Hire Plus and Youth Leadership programs, with the goal of increasing computer literacy in an under-served community.
